I am having a ton of fun running Buttonwillow in the CCW #13 configuration today. It’s hot as hell right now but the first two sessions were pretty livable since it’s still below 100°F, but I bet after lunch for the last two sessions are gonna be rough.

Tires were definitely greasy at the end of the second session so things are getting pretty hot out there. There are a total of 5 sessions today so I’ve got plenty of time left to get heat stroke and die. I’ve been drinking a ton of water and Gatorade so I’ll be alright but man after a track session am I tired! One more session before lunch and hopefully my nice hearty salad I packed will give me some energy for the second portion.

Also, fun fact my first lap (after the out lap) was my thir d fastest lap of the session by only 3 tenths. Love how I can do that consistently but it’s also a sign of how hot the tires are getting. Street tires suck lol.

Dude if your tires are greasy then it would like I’m driving on banana peels the whole time. So I’ll have to wait until September to kick your ass.

Bring it on lol. And yeah other people are leaving early due to the heat. Engines not running right, tires too slick, driver can’t handle being hot. Bunch of wimpy stuff lol. Just had lunch so now I’m good to go. Bought a slow MO video this time too!

I'm not surprised. That's crazy heat which isn't good for people or for cars. It's gotta suck to pay all that money and then have to bail.

I didn't do the 5th heat. My 4th heat was slower than the 3rd so that was the end of the day. I didn't even expect to get a 5th anyways so I was glad to leave. Time to cross the grapevine again and see if anything breaks!

No thanks. Hopefully you survive.

The amount of cars pulled off to the side of the road with hoods up was astounding to me. Do people just not bother with checking anything or maintaining their cars? Just figure hey lets go up this 4000 foot hill with the AC blasting and assume nothing will go wrong? There are also wayyyyy too many cars on that road, where the hell are people going. I did not expect traffic on a Sunday evening in the middle of nowhere with no construction or accidents.

Wow. That’s pretty amazing. But to answer your question: yes, people are dumb. But they also trust dumb shops who don’t bother to check those kinds of things.

There’s always traffic on Sunday nights because people are going home for the w eekend, and the grapevine is a major artery.

Thankfully my cooling is well sorted. Even after the whole day of tracking in the heat and driving down the 5 with the AC blasting, I was running right about 100-103C going uphill and below 100 downhill. Surprising to me all of the guys talking about overheating on track, although most of them were in turbo cars of some sort.

100 is still hot to me, or it’s the high end of where I want to be. I’ve gotten my car down to 80 under normal operation. I thought that was normal until I did the head gasket and replaced the thermostat and I was around 100. Turns out that’s normal for my car so my old thermostat was partially open the whole time I had it. But I don’t like 100 so cut the coolant mixture down to 25% and added Water Wetter.

I'm sure most of the turbo cars had heat soak. What that does in practice, I don't know. But it sucks for them.

My fan isnt even supposed to turn on until 110, so 100 is perfectly normal lol. But going downhill or normal weather driving, will generally be in the mid 90s. I probably should run less coolant when I get around to changing out the coolant now that I never go anywhere cold with the car. My coolant isnt a nice new color green anymore so it is probably in need of a flush. Ive definitely learned the value of that in other cars that had mysterious overheating issues that ended up just being old coolant.

You need to be careful with old coolant too because it eats head gaskets. That’s why I had to change the head in my Mercedes: all the previous owners neglected coolant so by the time I got to it, it was too late.

It aint super old, just dirtier looking than I would like it to be. I had to replace the coolant when I did my timing belt like 20k ago.
